Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipWe're at Frosty Ridge Alpacas, which is in Solway Township.
We're going to be shearing 90 alpacas today.
They're shorn annually.
We are an alpaca farm.
We breed alpacas.
This is part of the husbandry.
This is something that needs to be done with alpacas in North America.
Alpacas are native to the Andes Mountains.
Their perfect temperature is 40 degrees and zero humidity.
And so it's our humidity here in North America that causes the problems.
80 degrees and 80% humidity is way too hot for these animals to be able to cope.
We have to put them in restraints for their own safety and for our shearers safety.
It is not anything that is going to hurt the animals.
It just keeps them still.
I love alpacas and I really, truly want to share them with the community.
Anybody who's interested.
