Opioids were the go to, but contributed to tragic addictions.

Now surgeons prescribe multimodal pain control instead of one strong drug.

They can combine smaller doses of opioids with meds like acetaminophen, NSAIDs, local anesthetics and sometimes add nerve blocks.

This targets multiple pain pathways, and there's less grogginess, less nausea, faster recovery.
