Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipswapping presidential nominees appears to have given the Democratic party the jolt it needed a new Monmouth University poll out today finds enthusiasm has skyrocketed with voter support for vice president kamala Harris slightly higher than it was for President Joe Biden now that the matchup is between Harris and former president Donald Trump enthusiasm jumped from 50 to 68% with the biggest change among Democrats according to the poll from 46% in June to 85% now but the poll also finds there's been a notable increase among Independents which is a key voting block meanwhile the number of Voters who back Trump remains steady among Republicans enthusiasm for the Trump Harris contest is identical 71% to what it was in June for the Trump Biden rematch poll director Patrick Murray says the data shows the race is now a different ball game we have a race where voters who we call Double haters because they disliked both Trump and Biden and really couldn't pick between the two of them um have now slid in mostly into Harris's column she's picking up a majority of those voters who didn't like either Trump or Biden as the choices and so that's a key differential that means she's picking up younger voters she's picking up voters who want change uh which Biden was not representing to them but they don't want to go as far as the kind of change that Donald Trump is offering
