Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipCartoon Academ continues our northern adventure by drawing a puffin.
Let's begin with the eyes.
A curved line like so.
You want to thicken that line up just a little bit.
So we double up on it just a little.
We're going to start with the head by coming out down.
And then just keep on going right into the wing.
And then bring that line up like so.
For the rest of the head we'r going to put a curved line down.
And then we're going to ad the beak right into that spot.
The beak looks like this.
It's a letter V turned on its side with rounded edges.
A puffins beak actually changes colors throughout the year and the winter.
It's sort of a grayish tone.
They come spring.
It's a bright, vibrant orange.
And there's just two quick lines that form a pattern on that beak.
For the rest of the body start at the base of the beak.
Come down around and up to the wing.
Now we're going to add the pattern on the head.
Start right up here.
Come down out point and into the wing.
The other wing is right over here.
Puffins are actually quite fast.
They can flap their wings up to 400 beats per minute.
I would find that exhausting.
I would be huffing and puffing color in the wings.
And this part of the head.
We just color that i with our black marker or pencil.
Whatever you have handy is fine.
Take your time.
Good job.
Two lines on the tummy.
The tail feather.
It's just a letter w. And again we're going to fill that in.
Puffins beaks are quite colorful and they have a comical waddle.
This has led them to being called the clowns of the sea.
Now for our legs 1212A letter C out.
Letter M and N same thing.
Other side.
We flip it and reverse it.
Letter C, letter m and n. We're gonna have it standing on the beach.
So we add a little bit of rocky surface here and then some water.
It's all about the texture a little bit of specks here to just show that texture of the sand on the beach.
Lastly give em a little bit o personality with that eyebrow.
There we go.
Be sure to sign your name.
Take pride in your work.
There is your puffin.
